Now that we’ve explained what a Featured Snippet is, we can discuss Featured Clips. These are videos pulled from YouTube that appear in the Featured Snippet “zero position” spot. Unlike the traditional video carousel, a Featured video clip auto-starts & stops at the exact section of the Clip that answers the searcher’s query. Here’s an example:


When a user clicks on the video, it will begin playing from the 42-second mark.

When & where do Featured Clips show up?

Featured Clips tend lớn show up for highly visual “how to” searches where the user is probably looking for step-by-step instructions.

Imagine it’s Sunday morning & you want to lớn make French Toast. But you can’t quite remember the recipe, so you tìm kiếm “How to lớn make French Toast”. A written danh mục of instructions would be helpful, but a đoạn Clip would be even better -- và that’s where the Featured video comes in.

So what did we do?

We wanted to lớn see what the Featured video clip videos had in comtháng, so we analyzed:

After looking at 165 Featured Clips, we found some pretty interesting -- and surprising -- patterns.

Our findings

1.A video’s name is important: 80% of the Featured Clips in our study contained the exact keyword in their title. An important factor in winning the Featured đoạn phim is likely the đoạn phim name

2.Video length doesn’t matter: The longest Clip in our analysis was 2,125 seconds long, or about 35 và a half minutes, while the shordemo Clip was just 55 seconds. As long as the video’s content aligns with the searcher’s intent, its length won’t help or hurt its chances of snagging the Featured Clip spot. That being said, if you want viewers to stay for the entire Clip, a shorter one is probably best.

Keep your older đoạn Clip content updated: The average đoạn phim age was 4 years và 8 months. That means all of your nội dung should be optimized lớn win Featured Clips -- not just your new videos.

4.Don’t focus too much on your videos’ YouTube rank: There is a strong correlation between a video’s rank on Google’s đoạn Clip tab và its presence as a Featured đoạn phim. The correlation between its YouTube rank and ability lớn win the Featured Clip was much weaker.

5.Type up content & put it in your video’s description: Surprisingly enough, 71% of Featured Clips don’t have scripts or lists in their mô tả tìm kiếm. But you should always make your content as accessible as possible for sight-impaired users or people who prefer to lớn read.

A few things to consider

When we began, we identified 224 từ khoá that triggered Featured Clips. However, we quickly realized some of these từ khoá were losing this search feature. By the time our analysis was complete, just 165 keyword of the original 224 still presented Featured Clips (a 26% decline).

This doesn’t necessarily mean there are fewer Featured Clips overall, as they may be appearing for keyword we weren’t tracking. What it does mean: Featured Clips are highly volatile (lượt thích most experimental Google search features).

We also found most queries with Featured Clips targeted consumers rather than professionals. (“How khổng lồ make French Toast” belongs in the first category, while “How to lớn write a memo” belongs in the second.) Only 8% of the Featured video clip queries we analyzed were professional.

There is no doubt that Featured Clips are volatile, but there are identifiable patterns woven through the new tìm kiếm feature. With this in mind, the decision to make an effort khổng lồ win Featured Clips is up to lớn you.
